Beginner Knit Series

Updated: May 30, 2018

Hi Friends! We are starting a Beginner Knit Series to help with some of the starter stitches to get you going. Feel free to pass this along to your friends and family that are trying to learn and, as always, please dont hesitate to let us know if there is something additional you would like to see. We are here to help and spread the Knitter l.o.v.e ❤️.

This is the Cast on stitch - the first step in getting you on your way. Now, there are are many ways to do this but this is the old-school, tried-and-true method. We can get fancy shmancy later but try to give this method a go first!

Here we go...

Let's start by making a knot around your left needle.

ree

Tighten it so it's snug to the needle but loose enough to move up/down without too much pull.

ree

Now let's start creating loops. The number of loops you need to create is dependent on the pattern you've chosen. This guide will show you how to create the loops but follow your pattern when casting on.

Insert the right needle into the loop you created when tying a knot -

ree

Wrap the yarn around the back of the right needle so that it rests between the left and right needle, on top of the original loop.

ree

Using the right needle, pull the yarn that you just wrapped around the back through the original loop you created. You will now have a loop on the left needed (from original knot) and a newly created loop on the right side needle.

ree

Using the right needle, place the newly created loop on the left needle, next to the original loop. Tighten the yarn so that it is similar in tension to the original loop. That's it! You have created a new loop and this process can be repeated to add as many loops as you need to follow your pattern!

ree

To add more loops, insert the right needle under the newly created loop.

ree

Wrap the yarn around again and pull the yarn up through the loop, creating another loop on the right needle.

ree

Repeat this process as many times as needed!

ree

Voila!

Hope that helps! Let me know how it goes :)
